How will I receive the cremains back from the crematorium?
While each crematory is a bit different, a pet's cremains are usually returned in a zip locked bag and placed inside a container before being returned to you. You can ask the crematory this question so you know what to expect when the cremains are returned to you.

Should I cremate my pet or have a burial?
This is a personal choice that only you can decide which you are more comfortable with. Things to consider with a burial is whether you would lay your pet to rest in a cemetary or if you have a place to bury them that is permissable with your City or town's guidelines. Many people find a burial to bring closure and chose this method. If you choose to cremate, you need to find out whether your veterinarian takes care of the arrangements or if you need to transport your pet to a crematory. There are different types of cremation, individual or community. An individual cremation is when your pet is the only one that is being cremated. A community cremation is when more than one pet is cremated at a time, separated by dividers. The ashes are then gathered from the dividers and returned to each pet's owner. This is usually the less expensive way to have the cremation.

What size urn should I purchase?
The industry standard rule for determining what size urn you will need is to go by 1 cubic inch per pound of pet (based on live weight). For example, if an urn is listed as 55 Cubic Inches, then it should be capable of holding a pet that weighed up to 55 lbs. If your pet's weight was close to the size limit, it may be best to contact the crematory and ask if the measurements listed would accomodate your pet's cremains.

What is a Community Urn?
Many people have more than one pet in their family and when that time comes, want them to stay together. For this reason, they often purchase a larger urn where they can place more than one pet's cremains. We carry several urns that are ideal for this purpose, as there can be additional photos added to one urn and/or additional engraved plates added as each pet's time comes.

How are the cremains placed in the urn?
Urns come in a variety of styles, sizes and shapes. Some urns have screws on the bottom that you remove to place the cremains inside. Others are placed in from the top and require slight glueing. Each urn you purchase from Rainbow Crossings comes with complete instructions and everything necessary to put your pet in their final resting home.

How can I size my photos to fit the frames?
Some of the urns we sell we include a clear, transparent template for your convenience. You simply place it over your photo, center it, trace around the edges and cut. All of the frames comes with some type of template. If you can't find a photo that will fit the frame openings, it is easy to have your picture altered by using Photoshop or another means of enlargement/reduction. Or you can always scan your photo on your computer and adjust the size accordingly. The frame sizes are listed in all of the frame descriptions to help you determine if you will be able to use a picture that will fit.
